Realizations About Real Trips

This evening it hit me; I will be leaving the comfort of my familiar life and my familiar city in only a few months. It is terrifying. All of the things I love will stay here while I go and explore this new place. However, it is kind of the reverse of “if you truly love something let it go.” Because of leaving my beloved home, I will be given the chance to grow as a person. Because I love my life here in the states, I want to leave it so that I can become better for all of the people I love.

I have also been wondering about the people I will meet. I hope that they are good people and I hope that I will miss them. I hope that I hesitate on my return home because that will mean that I will have loved a different life and a new part of myself.

And Thusly a Blog Was Born

So here is the start.

My name is Maggie. I am a 21 year old Californian girl who is planning to study abroad in South Africa this February. I am a student at San Francisco State University where I study zoology. The purpose of this blog is to help possible future students in their progress through the after math of being accepted into a study abroad program and the challenges of living in South Africa, specifically Port Elizabeth.

Here is a bit of a more of an in-depth description of who I am. I am originally from the central coast of California, San Luis Obispo to be exact, and was raised in a very small town way. When I was 16 I was adopted by my Canadian foster family, who may be mentioned as the blog continues. After I graduated from high school I moved to San Francisco where I now attend the state university. I have lived in San Francisco for a little over three years now and have come to know and love the city. I am excited to get to know a new world but my home will be strongly missed.

My past-times currently include; tons of school work, spending time with the important people in my life, a bit of bar hopping, finding good food to eat, being a kind ear to my socially awkward male friends and caring for two Labradors.

I hope that while reading this you find it to be an enjoyable source of information. If you have any questions or comments please feel free to comment on entries or email me at magnoliachurchCA@gmail.com.
